Movable Type and Perl!

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
Something to remember!
When installing Movabletype on a Windows server only use Perl 5.8.8!  The newer version of Perl causes the final screen on installation to freeze.  After a long install process you are left with a screen that says "Initializing Database..." that never changes.  It is forever initializing.
I spent 30 minutes troubleshooting an install when I finally remembered the little Perl thing!  Grrrr!
Now it's off to figure out why Yahoo pipes is aggregating a comments feed instead of post feeds!!!  Computers sure can suck!!!!!

GRFLogosm I just came across the web site for a Medieval Festival in Gloucster, VA that will be happening July 19th.  Sounds like it might be a lot of fun.

From the site...

"With one step you leave behind all that you have known and with the next step into a world where Myth and Legend are Reality.  A place where Ladies walk hand in hand with Knights in shining armour, where Musicians sit under shaded tree and weave stories of lyrical wonder.  A place where Merchants offer treasures from far away lands, and foods are offered that are both new to the eye and pleasing to the palette.  Enjoy games and diversions of great merriment, while Performers entertain you with their cleverness and skill."

MMMMM.... Smoothies!....

flipflop.gifWhat could be better than a smoothie on a hot day?  A FREE ONE!!
That's right, FREE!  Tropical Smoothie is giving away free Smoothies to anyone that comes in to their stores on June 21st wearing flip flops.

Lets see there is one on General Booth Blvd, from there I could head up to Great Neck Road, next, down to the one on Kempsville Road, then Princess Anne Road on the way back home.

I just across Songza.com by way of del.icio.us. So far it looks really cool. Look for a song or band and play it on the site.

Ok... so does this make for a computer technology post or a cycling post?  Seeing as this post is about a post at a cycling blog with a link to my site!  Anywhooo... I thought it was pretty cool that this little old site got some linking from one of the coolest cycling blogs around gamjams.net
On a cycling related note.... congratulations to all of the folks that made it through the Sunday officials training clinic and passed the test to become new officials.  Josh Goyet (aka: Firebike) and his wife are new members of the officials world. And go figure his wife did better than him on the test.... Josh look out next you know she's going to be beating you on the road!  My little sister also joined the ranks of officials, as did JB.  I wonder if that means we'll be seeing less of him on the side of the course shooting pictures?  Congrats again to everyone!

For all you new officials.... dont forget to sign up and accept the invitation to the VACA Officials Google Group and get your availability information in to "the boss".

It's a tent for your laptop... who would have thought?????
I think this is going to be a mandatory addition to the cycling officials kit to go along with our new Panasonic Camcorder and a laptop.

The Sixty One...

sixtyonelogo.gifA while back I came across a cool site called Thesixtyone.com.  The goal of the site is to help new artists get exposure.  The way they do this is by using a points system in which site users earn points by "discovering" new music and "bumping" it.  Initial bumps cost you points but then as the music is bumped by other people you start earning points.  It's a fun way to find new stuff that hasn't made it in to music databases like Pandora.com.  Some of the cool stuff I have come across on the site:  Busbee, Lorelei Carlson, and Temple Scene.  So take some time and check out the site.

Pickachu has gone crazy!!

I came across a cool way to quickly close an application.  It's even built in to WinXP.  It's called taskkill.  This little program can kill a running application by way of a batch file.  Here's the scenario I wanted it for.... I wanted the ability to close Firefox quickly while I have multiple tabs open and have the option to restore those tabs the next time I opened up Firefox.  With taskkill that's very simple.... create a batch file that contains the following:
@echo off
TASKKILL /F /IM "firefox.exe"

Then save it as a batch file.  Double click the batch file and voila Firefox closes automatically without a prompt to close multiple tabs and the next time you open Firefox you have the option to reload the tabs from the last session.

Even faster.... setup a keyword in Keybreeze or Launchy so that you only have to enter the first couple letters of the batch file name to run it.

Gx5: UltimatePhone

GX5 has a very cool replacement for the clunky phone interface for Palm Devices.  It's only been a little while since I started to use it but from what I have seen it's pretty sweet.  It allows you to assign photos and icons to contacts as well as shortcuts for you most commonly used applications.

Stormyva’s blog - Vox

I am seriously considering killing this blog and only using the vox.com blog.  The Vox blog is on someone else's server (so I dont have to worry about backups), I can instantly throw posts up with my Centro, and it's powered by what my blog has been using.  Over the next few days there might be a redirect set up.

Here's the link.....

hulu: Internet TV

A very cool online service called hulu.com offers content on demand. Right now it’s in beta testing and the site sent gave me the ability to log in and check it out today. From what I have seen it’s a great service and the couple of minutes of video I watched came in clear without lag. At full screen the video was not all that great quality, but hey, it’s free and it’s available anywhere you want to watch it. Check out the site and sign up for the beta testing….. hulu http://www.hulu.com/videos/views/thumbs/all/episode/all/all/today/1
