I should have thought of this earlier! Use desktop shortcuts and "hot-keys" to hit your Google Apps. I have been using Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets, and Google Calender for some time now. The only pain to it was having to open a browser and click links to get to where I wanted to be. So in came the idea of using desktop shortcuts. I normally don't use desktop shortcuts because I like a clean clutter free workspace, hence the reason I didn't think of them earlier. A oft forgotten feature of shortcuts is the ability to assign shortcut keys to activate them. ie: ALT + CTRL + "C" to open up Google Calendar in a browser.
To do this create a shortcut on the desktop, then right click on it and go to properties. In the "Short Cut Key" field enter in the key combination that you want to use.
